Here you are… on the launching pad!

Congratulations on wanting to find out more!

Because you are here, you seem like the kind of person searching for a sign of hope.
Frustration leads you to look for a way out. You’re tired and don’t have the energy to waste on something new if it isn’t going to be your answer.

I “see” you

I “hear” you.

I can help you!

You will learn how to take back control over your destiny which, was previously thought impossible with Parkinson’s Disease.

I will teach you how to speak with purposeful, focused, and deliberate speech so others can understand you.

We want you to know as much as possible…

… about how this disease has affected your voice.

Changes in the face, mouth, and throat…

Here’s how James Parkinson first described the disease: “So slight are the first inroads of this malady, and so extremely slow its progress, that it rarely happens that the patient can form any recollection of the precise period of its commencement.”

The disease comes like a thief in the night.

You may have noticed changes in your ability to chew, eat, speak, and swallow. Not only does the disease complicate making the sounds of speech, but symptoms like a frozen or a masked face make it more difficult to communicate the emotions and expressions that are so vital to conveying your message.

Some patients find that their speech speeds up, making their words sound more like mumbling or stuttering. Others find that their speech slows as they have difficulty finding the words they want to say. As the disease progresses, these changes tend to increase as well.

Social and emotional changes…

The last two years, I have experienced a sharp increase in the life-changing symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. It is not just the loss of my voice, but the things that my voice impacts, like my ability to socialize and communicate with my colleagues at work – but most importantly, my marriage. Social isolation can be one of the most frustrating byproducts of Parkinson’s disease, and restoring your voice is vital to your overall emotional well-being. image We’ll talk about all this… and more.
Our preliminary information session will be a Zoom meeting and will last approximately one hour.
You will be the focus of this meeting as I help you understand how Parkinson’s Disease has affected your voice, including loudness and quality changes, clarity issues, sensory deficits, emotions, and voice. We will discuss how this approach is successful and how it differs from traditional speech therapy.

Many of my patients tell me that no one has ever taken the time to explain this journey to them from the perspective of losing their voice, and more importantly, how they can restore and maintain it for the rest of their lives!

We invite family members and caregivers to participate in this session when appropriate. This is an exciting time for you, and we want the important people in your life to come along for the ride!
We’ll talk all about the physical, social, and emotional toll of Parkinson’s, and we’ll explore what this means for you.
Growing research has provided us with more specific information on the sensory, motor, and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s. We’ll teach you about the latest research.

We’ll also talk about the neurophysiology of the disease – how brain chemicals like dopamine are involved in your ability to control automatic movements like walking, talking, and writing. But don’t worry: I promise to make this vitally important information easy to understand!
Finally, we’ll thoroughly look at the goals and benefits of speech therapy. This will include exploring how this degenerative disease progresses and the risks of not addressing speech and swallowing difficulties.

I want you to know as much as you can about Parkinson’s…
… so that you’re armed with information that can benefit you as you go through the process of producing louder, clearer, more consistent speech.
Walking away from this session, you can expect to have a full understanding of how this disease affects your speech and swallowing – and how we’ll structure a program designed specifically to meet your personal needs.
